BMWA- Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour
URL: http://www.bmwa.gv.at
Customer: Cabinet of Mr Bartenstein, the Federal Minister of Economics and Labour
Original situation: Due to changed general conditions and to a partly unstructured design, the website (which was last revised in 2002) no longer fulfilled usability and accessibility requirements.
Solution: Following the completion of a usability study, a new structure and a new, more modern layout were developed together with the Federal Ministry. Thanks to a colour-based system, visitors can now quickly find their way about on the homepage and can always know exactly where they happen to be within the extensive website.
An intuitive navigation system and a service area where visitors can find the most important issues at a glance both aid visitors in quickly obtaining the desired information.
The approximately 30 editors of the different sections attended courses where they were trained in the use of public-friendly language and the special factors which must be taken into account when writing articles for the internet: the result is reflected in the clear structure of the pages and the focus on a brief, succinct communication of information.
Services:
- Usability study including recommendations
- Development of a modern layout
- Development of a new workflow within the Federal Ministry
- Training the editors in “Writing for the Web”
- Creation of a wording guide
- Advice in structuring the content
- Formulation of the technical requirements (validity, WAI criteria, browser compatibility, etc)
